Thirteen years ago, Troy and Shelby met in college while working at a Subway. Troy asked Shelby to a friend’s party and they’ve been together ever since. When they first started dating, Troy was quiet but funny Shelby was the more talkative and outgoing half of this pair, and Troy liked that she was easy going and fun.

The couple traveled to Colorado for skiing over a long weekend in January to celebrate Shelby’s birthday. While they were in Denver, the couple went to check out a jeweler that Shelby followed on instagram. Troy agreed to browse the jewelry boutique since it was near a beer and pizza place he was wanting to try. Shelby found an amazing, non-traditional rough cut diamond. She loved it. The following day Troy snuck back to the boutique and bought it. The couple had no plans to ever get married, but when Shelby found a ring she loved, Troy went for it.

Troy pulled off the interstate when he saw a sign for a scenic view point. They got out and ended up at the top of a hill where one side of the road is the mountains in the sunset and the other side was the entire skyline of Denver. When Shelby turned around after trying to get the perfect shot for Instagram Troy was on one knee. Shelby said, “Yes.”

This Iowa couple loves craft beer. They attended our first beer festival in Mears Park in St. Paul seven years ago and had dinner at the Happy Gnome. Because of their love of their experience, they chose to have a destination wedding in St. Paul where they first fell in love with craft beer.

Their ceremony was in the heart of lowertown at The 413 on Wacouta Event Center. They chose to have their reception at the Happy Gnome. It was an awesome way to make their day special and unique!

Their day was rainy, but was made the best of it with a trip to a brewery, Barrel Theory, which is super close to 413 on Wacouta, and also the amazing St. Paul skyway system. The weather cleared and allowed us to grab some fun shots on the roof of 413 and outside at the Happy Gnome.
